Iowa Right to Life

Saturday Cara, Melanie and I took a van load of books to the Iowa Right To Life book drop in Des Monies. Every year the Iowa Right to Life has two book sales and all the proceeds go to the Pregnancy centers in Iowa. This was the first time we were able to she what they do.

This is Cara unloading the van. The area above her head is all the donations they have gotten from other people. We were blessed to get many books from lots of people for this trip. I think the next trip we want to take two trucks full of books.

This is inside the building, all of the boxes are a different topic of book. They organize them before they take the books to the sale. This is just the drop off point, the sale is in another building.

And here is the sale, this was in the little Colosseum across from the Wes Fargo stadium. This was full of tables and all kinds of books, computer software, home school curriculum etc. It was amazing.

Here is Melanie and I looking at the kids books. They had so much to choose from, Melanie could not make up her mind what to get.

Here is Cara, She found what she wanted. She is all over that.

I just could not get over all the books we saw, there were so many, They keep the sale going for five days, and when we were there, there really was not many people. But they came in slowly.

The prices of the books were reasonable also, I was so impressed with it. The bibles were free will donations and the rest of the books were from fifty cents to two dollars. If you would like to know more about Iowa Right to Life, go here.

Thank you to all that donated books for our trip to Des Monies. We had a blast and it was so awesome to see how they raise the money to support this ministry. If you would like more information about our center please call 712-623-2999 or 712-621-5157. God bless you.

Junction Day Parade 2009

Yesterday, a group of us spend the morning in the Junction Days Parade. We passed out book markers and candy. We had a wonderful time, it was a little warm, but we had a great time.

I would like to thank Bonnie for her Van and driving, her two grand daughters Dana and Tianna. I would also like to thank Cara for getting the book marks done this week, and of course my kids Melanie, Luke, Jasmine and Ricky. You all did a wonderful job!!

As I was walking in the parade passing out book markers, I stopped and listened to some of the remarks made about the book markers. I heard lots of laughter and I even had several women remind me that they do not need that kind of service anymore.

I have heard this so many times in the years that I have volunteered here. I would like to say this. When I look at women, any women at any age, I do not wonder if you can have a baby, or if you are planning a family etc. What I see is someone with a heart to nurture. We are created by God to be the nurtiers of our homes and to other women(Titus 2). We are women and therefore, we are called by God to help these women be better moms and wives, if they choose to be a mom or wife. To help them make a decision based on God's word concerning their state.

We are all God's children and we need to take care of each other. If you do not feel that you can physically help at the center, please pray, donate or have a baby shower. Yes, your right, you do not need to have a baby to volunteer at the center. All you need is prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit.

I will be honest, I pray always for God to send people to stand firm for that little baby, but most of all, I want to stand firm for the mother and father's faith. They need us, they need to see strong christian women and men who can love on them and take them right to God. We are God's Army, we need to be there as abassaders for Him and especially for the parents.

No matter what, we are all able and I hope willing to do the Lords work. God bless you and thank you for all of you support. Also, I would like to mention that the Pregnancy Center is now on Face book. We would love to have ya. In God's Love, Tanya Ross

Pondering

Lately, I have been pondering on why I had felt lead to be a part of the Pregnancy Center. I decided that I was going to look into abortion. No, I did not want to see any pictures, but I did want to remind myself of why I came here. So, last week I spent time on line looking into abortion and the different techniques. Now, I have to tell you, I was reminded extremely quickly on why I felt lead to fight for the unborn. People, there is a battle field out there, we do not see the casualties, or the effects that it has on others, unless we look into it. It is dangerous and costly to all people, moms, dads, brothers and sisters, friends and extended family members.

And while on am on this subject, I would like to share a true story. The other night I was at the center. The phone rang and I answered it, "Pregnancy Center, Tanya speaking." This man asked me, "is this the Pregnancy center?" And I replied "yes." Then he replied, "My fiance and I have had scheduled an appointment to have an abortion the tomorrow." I explained, "that we were not Planned Parenthood, we were the Pregnancy Center of South West Iowa." I also replied, "that we did not do abortions, but I would be able to talk with them." And he replied "no." And with that he hung up.

For the first time in my life, I knew about an exacution and there was no way I could stop it. I went into prayer with the other volunteer and we pleaded for that little life.

Look, I am not here to judge, I am here to help. If you have been faced with this issue or you have had one, come down to the center and lets talk. I was to help you over come this. We do not have the right to put you down or make you feel bad. We are here to love and guide you to God.

Life is a gift and we need to give it everyday. That is what I believe, God gives life and He would not want us to take it away. And this is why I am at the Center, I want to be a solider for the Lord and protect His children and help heal the parents of abortion.

The New Beginning Program

At the center we have a program called "The New Beginnings Program." This program offers the Father and Mother a chance to collect items for their new baby. We offer diaper from new born to three, shampoo, wipes, lotion, baby powder, clothing, shoes, furniture (except for car seats).

The young parents go out into the community and earn points. For example, they go to WIC, or a doctors appointment, getting their GED, bible studies, stop smoking, memorize bible scriptures or attend one of our classes. The parent then gets their point tallied up and they can shop.

It gives the parents a chance to build their own baby room for their small child on the way or keep up with the growing needs of their child after it is born. It is a wonderful program and we really love the donations that come in. And it is exciting to see the parents raise their points and go shopping.

Like I said, if you would like to donate to the center, you can drop off donations when we are opened or you can drop them off in the drop box on our porch. We take baby and toddler clothes from 0-4T, diapers, baby shampoo, power, lotions, oils, and wipes. We are currently not taking Car Seats right now.

If you know of any women who knows that she is pregnant and needs the help, send her down to the center. We would love to meet her and provide her with ways to get ready for the new baby.

Welcome to our Blog

Hello from the Pregnancy Center of South West Iowa. I am Tanya Ross and I am part of the Centers team. We have been a part of Red Oak for about eight years. We are a Non Profit organization and we are ran by volunteers. We have a wonderful group of volunteers and other staff member who pray for the organization and they do other handy jobs that we need done. Here let me introduce some of our volunteers and give you some information about the center.

From left to right: Janet Wheat, Cara Crawford, Pastor Alan Dean and Tanya Ross.

This is from a Volunteer Luncheon that we gave to the volunteers last spring. We honored Janet Wheat for her role as a director and one of the first people open the center.

This is Melanie and Cara in front of the Firehouse Restaurant in Red Oak, Iowa.

Here is Janet out in the court yard of the Firehouse with the award that we gave her. She is still a small part of the center, but she felt that she needed to move on to another ministry. She is well missed and she did an awesome job.
And this is the plaque that we gave Janet. It is so precious, it represents what the center is all about. I just love the way that it sums up our direction. In other post, I hope to tell you some history of the center and introduce you to more of our volunteers. If you are in a situation with an unplanned pregnancy, please contact us or come in and lets talk. God bless you.
